Southampton go for Burnley fullback Trippier

Southampton are preparing a bid for Burnley fullback Kieran Trippier.

The Mail on Sunday says Southampton are looking at Trippier as a replacement for their Manchester United-bound England international Nathaniel Clyne.

Trippier's £3.5million release clause looks certain to be activated following Burnley's relegation from the Premier League and Saints boss Ronald Koeman has asked to be kept informed of developments with Clyne expected to head to Old Trafford this summer.

Stoke City and newly-promoted Watford are also in for 24-year-old Trippier who started his career at Manchester City.
