Australia manager Holger Osieck was thrilled with the showing of both Brett Holman and Robbie Kruse in Wednesday night's 3-2 friendly loss to Romania in Spain.
Aston Villa midfielder Holman, whose side sits second bottom in the Premier League, and Fortuna Dusseldorf striker Kruse put in solid 90 minute shifts for the Socceroos and Osieck was complimentary of their performances.
"Robbie Kruse did very well again - his runs were fantastic and set up his team mates but that little bit of extra was lacking in order to score," said Osieck.
"I was happy with Brett Holman who has had less game practice in recent games so he really worked hard for the team.
"He was full of energy and I think that game gave him another boost to get over his, let's say, miserable situation with his club."
Osieck also praised Austria Vienna's James Holland for holding down the defensive midfield spot.
"We are lacking a position in defensive midfield and I think James Holland did very well," he said.
"He definitely can be the option which is encouraging."
