Dutch football legend Wesley Sneijder has claimed that he rejected Liverpool during his playing days.
The former attacking midfielder, who is now a pundit, was assessing the Reds' move for Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.
Sneijder, who won the Champions League with Internazionale during a trophy-laden career, says that he could have moved to the Reds in 2013.
"I once had a situation to transfer to Liverpool or Galatasaray," Sneijder stated on Dutch TV programme Veronica Offside.
“I chose Galatasaray at that moment because I wanted to win more trophies and Liverpool was going through a difficult time at that time.
“I chose trophies because those are the best thing a football player would want to win.
“I also wanted to be free at Christmas and New Year's. It was a choice I made consciously."
