Smith warns McGregor after Rangers axe

Allan McGregor must sort himself out off the field if he wants to reclaim the goalkeeper's jersey at Rangers. "He was great last season and set himself a helluva standard to keep up," said Gers boss Walter Smith. "That's the challenge for him and, as his manager, I feel he has not got to that level yet.

"He has to get back to that level again and I have got to be prepared to make that change. Neil (Alexander) did not let us down when he stood in last season and he deserves his chance. He did nothing wrong and I have to be fair to him, also."

He added: "It is not an easy decision and I do not take such decisions lightly. It is a bigger call than an outfield decision because you can manufacture one around the group."
