Smeltz joins Simon atop A-League goal scorer's sheet

Shane Smeltz's goal in Wellington Phoenix's 2-0 win over the Newcastle Jets on Saturday took him to equal top of the A-League scoring table. The striker scored another important goal for the New Zealand club who will certainly miss his value when he joins Gold Coast United next season.

Smeltz has scored eight of the Phoenix's 12 goals and has almost singlehandedly kept them within two points of the top four.

Queensland Roar's midfield star Charlie Miller also scored on the weekend and now sits second on the table, one behind Smeltz and Central Coast Mariners striker Matt Simon who has also scored eight times.

Adelaide United skipper Travis Dodd moved up one spot with his goal against Sydney FC on Saturday night whilst Melbourne Victory talisman Archie Thompson is still within striking distance of another golden boot award with his winner against Central Coast at the Telstra Dome on Friday night.

The A-League goal scoring Top 10 after Round 12 is as follows:

8 - Matt Simon (Central Coast Mariners) 8 - Shane Smeltz (Wellington Phoenix) 7 - Charlie Miller (Queensland Roar) 6 - Danny Allsopp (Melbourne Victory) 6 - Nikita Rukavytsya (Perth Glory) 6 - Travis Dodd (Adelaide United) 5 - Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory) 5 - Cristiano (Adelaide United) 5 - Eugene Dadi (Perth Glory) 5 - Joel Griffiths (Newcastle Jets)
