Skrtel not happy at Liverpool bench role - Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Martin Skrtel was none too pleased after being overlooked for the weekend's clash with Newcastle United.

The Slovakian centre-back sat on the bench for the 2-2 draw at Anfield even after Mamadou Sakho had been withdrawn for failing a drugs test.

Klopp went with Kolo Toure alongside Dejan Lovren in central defence instead of Skrtel who according to the boss, was annoyed with the decision.

"Martin Skrtel was not happy that he did not start [against Newcastle], but overall he's cool," Klopp said.

"He was never really injured when I got here. He could train, play, rest, but then he was injured. Came back, little injury. Back, little injury. Back, a little fit. If we need him he can play.

"We have other players so we can say 'come on, a few days more'. We have Martin, Dejan, Kolo, Lucas (Leiva) and Tiago Ilori so we have a few players who can play centre-half."
