Midfielder Moussa Sissoko has revealed that he is not bothered by being the only Frenchman in the Newcastle United starting lineup.

Newcastle have boasted a strong contingent of French players over the last three years but in recent matches, Sissoko has been the sole representative from his country to feature in the Magpies' starting XI.

However, Sissoko is not overly concerned about the issue and has stated that he is solely focused on helping Newcastle retain their Premier League status no matter what nationality the team comprises of.

"In the last few games I was the only French player," he told the Chronicle ahead of the weekend's clash with the already-relegated Aston Villa.

"We don't know the team yet for Saturday, but French, English or African player, we all focus on the job in hand.

"We all want the same thing - and that's to stay up. We must all focus on Saturday only."
