Antoine Griezmann struck for Atletico Madrid as they defeated Valencia 1-0 at the Mestalla stadium.

Griezmann jumped from the bench on the hour to score the winner.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone later said: "I think we were playing against an opponent with good intensity and response. Valencia controlled the game better, but within the numbers we had more chances to score than how well we played.

"At the end of the first half we had Morata, Griezmann, Carrasco, Griezmann again... But it is true that even the changes that gave more dynamics in the recovery of the ball and when holding it gave us more peace of mind in the game to feel more comfortable."

On Griezmann, he added: "As long as he manages to respond as he is doing, they already know what I think of him, which is very important. I understand that I must put him in the moment that I think is best for the team."
