Siem de Jong admits the presence of manager Alan Pardew at Newcastle United convinced him about his move from Ajax.
Positive talks with his brother Luuk, who spent last season with the Toon, also helped push the deal along after the striker gave Pardew a glowing reference.
De Jong said: "I spoke to him (Alan Pardew) once and Luuk also told me all about him, plus he spoke to our manager a couple of times.
"I have a feeling he is an honest trainer and I hope we have a good couple of years."
Luuk de Jong is yet to make a summer move anywhere from Borussia Monchengladbach.
But he was positive when asked by his brother about a move to Newcastle.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "Luuk has said that Newcastle is a great club, a great atmosphere in a great stadium.
"He said it is a big club in the world and he hopes that one day he comes back, maybe with me, so we will see."
