Shimizu's Brosque replaces Middlesbrough's McDonald in Australia squad

Shimizu S-Pulse striker Alex Brosque has replaced Middlesbrough's Scott McDonald in the Australia squad for World Cup qualifiers next month. The former Sydney FC star will step into Holger Osieck's 23-man squad after McDonald injured his hamstring last weekend.

Although the problem is not too serious, it is enough to rule McDonald out of the matches against Thailand on September 2 in Brisbane and Saudi Arabia in Dammam four days later.

The Socceroos squad will begin to assemble in Brisbane on Monday 29 August ahead of the match.
