Sherwood: Players want to fight for Aston Villa

Tim Sherwood is supremely confident that the entire Aston Villa playing group has the clubs best interests at heart.

The former Tottenham boss is preparing for his first match in charge of the West Midlands outfit after replacing Paul Lambert in the Villa Park hotseat last weekend and believes he has the attention of the full squad.

Villa have not won in 10 Premier League outings, losing their past five, which has them sitting 18th on the table but Sherwood feels the tide will soon turn ahead of Saturday's home meeting with Stoke City.

"The boys have responded well this week. They have been really concentrated on the work," he told the club's official website.

"I haven't tried to coach their minds too much - just a few things for them to take into the game.

"It's been a good week. It's been fantastic to get on the field with the players and just see what I've got to play with here. I am very encouraged with what I've seen.

"I sense that they want to fight for the cause. They want to battle for this football club.

"The football club has found itself in a difficult situation at the moment. But the lads are up for the fight to get the club out of it."
