Sheffield Wednesday have moved for Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi.

Head coach Stuart Gray has confirmed his interest in the 22-year-old, who featured just 12 times for Alan Pardew's side last season.

"We have spoken to Sammy's agent," said Gray. "He is a quality player and he has shown that by playing in the Premier League."

Ameobi, who had a spell on loan at Middlesbrough in 2012/13, wants to fight for his future at St James' Park.
