Sheffield Utd boss Wilder hopes for full-house against Luton

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder hopes for a sold-out Bramall Lane today against Luton Town.

The two promoted teams meet in a geunine six-pointer relegation battle.

Wilder said, "It's a great fixture, Boxing Day at home. Playing at Bramall Lane in front of 31,000-32,000 supporters, but it is still an incredibly difficult game which we have to get right. We understand the magnitude of the game, and that it is a team in and around us, and we understand we have to be at our best to get a result.

"One of the things we have spoken about is the connection between the supporters and the players and how key that is for us to gain big results. We feel it wasn't totally disconnected but there was a period when it wasn't great, but the players have reset and the performances against Liverpool and Brentford at home have been together performances on the pitch and that has set the supporters off. It is up to the players to get the crowd going in terms of their approach to the game. From our point of view when our home ground is full, noisy and when it is loud then they really do give the players a push and hopefully we can set them off again.

"We need to get the performance right. We go into the next game to try and get a performance and then a result, then it is rest, recovery, with little time to work on the training ground. We'll have a look at the injuries as well. We've had some serious blows which we had to deal with leading up to Villa, so hopefully we can have a look and see where the players are in terms of selection, work, recover and go again."

Wilder continued: "We fully respect Luton in terms of what they have done and their journey and the players they have got. They are a really together group. I went there with Watford last year and they ran over the top of Watford in every department. We understand their qualities, and know it has been difficult with Tom's (Lockyer) situation. There's a lot of connections with Alan (Knill) and Jack (Lester) working with Tom with Wales. He's been their talisman and skipper, but there's plenty of other players who have stepped up to the mark, and carried on the great work that Rob (Edwards) and everyone at that football club has done."
