Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has warned Arsenal fans attempting to drum Arsene Wenger out of the club.

Shearer makes the point that Sir Alex Ferguson held things together at Manchester United during times of uncertainty, and the Red Devils struggled in the immediate aftermath of his departure, finishing 7th in the Premier League and sacking his replacement David Moyes after less than a season in charge.

The Geordie hitman wrote in his Sun column: "Shame on those supporters who turned on Wenger given what he has done for their club.

"Indeed, those same fans only need cast an eye over to Old Trafford to know what happens when a manager who knows a club inside out leaves.

"Since Sir Alex has gone, uncertainty has enveloped the club."
