Shearer admits regrets over Newcastle manager's job

Alan Shearer has revealed what he would do differently if he was given his time as Newcastle United manager again.

The Toon legend took over for a brief stint as manager in 2009 but could not prevent his boyhood club from avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

"Well you didn't have to start with that but as you are going to," Shearer said on the Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast.

"I know one thing. It is a damn sight easier playing at the top of the league than it is at the bottom. There is far more pressure down there.

"It is not enjoyable because you are under so much pressure. I know you are under pressure at the top of the league to go and try to win whatever it is you are trying to win but there is pressure for you because people's livelihoods depend on it.

"The whole football club depends on you as players or manager because if you let that club down, you are going to be relegated and people will lose their jobs. That is on your back."
