Shea signs contract extension with FC Dallas

FC Dallas have secured the services of midfielder Brek Shea for the next four seasons.

The 21-year old has signed a deal which will keep him at Pizza Hut Park through until the end of the 2015 MLS season.

According to Dallas president Doug Quinn, Texan-born Shea is attracting a lot of attention from fans of the club and expects him to be one of the key faces for the club going forward.

"Brek has become a fan favorite," Quinn said. "Fans of all ages want to be near Brek, they want to read about Brek, they want to watch Brek, and many young ones want to be just like Brek.

"Brek Shea is exactly the type of player we need to keep in Major League Soccer and to continue to represent FC Dallas.

"If you look at our media and our advertising, you never put any one player [out there] because we're a team. … But, absolutely, you'll see that face coming forward."

Shea, who has represented the USA national team on two occasions and is tipped to become a regular, says he is delighted to remain with Dallas for the time being.

"I'm from here, I love playing here. I love being able to play in front of my family," said Shea. "All my friends I grew up with are close by. It's a really comfortable environment, and it's fun. I like it.

"Obviously, as a soccer player my goal is to play in Europe one day - maybe. Who knows? Right now is not the right time. I'm happy here and I want to keep playing here."
