African Nations Cup winner Mohamed Shawky is determined to establish himself at Middlesbrough.

The Egypt midfielder said: "I'm going back to Middlesbrough tired from having been involved in six intense games in 19 days.

"But I assure you, I'm determined to succeed.

"I really want to succeed with Middlesbrough and the manager, like myself, is confident I'll do so.

"He (Southgate) is a good coach and I enjoy working with him.

"He tells me that he sees me playing the same role for Middlesbrough that I do for Egypt.

"Even while I was in Ghana, he was watching all our matches and ringing me almost every day, encouraging and reassuring me."
