Sharp praises Everton over Yakubu signing

Former Everton striker Graeme Sharp has backed Yakubu Aiyegbeni to be a success at Goodison Park.

"Yakubu will provide pace and power," he told evertonTV.

"He has got a decent goalscoring record in the Premier League. He did very well at Portsmouth and Middlesbrough and was on the scoresheet regularly for both clubs.

"I am looking forward to seeing him play. He is unpredictable and that sometimes in the Premier League is a good asset to have."

The 24-year-old made the switch from Teesside to Merseyside for a Club record fee of £11.25million and Sharp explains such a fee is the going rate for a proven Premiership striker.

"I think it is a good acquisition. People will look at the price tag and raise their eyebrows but that is the price you have to pay these days for a proven goalscorer in the Premier League," he said.

"It would be great if he can score 20 goals. The more successful your strikers are the higher up the league table you will finish."
