Sharp: Manager wanted me to stay with Sheffield Utd

Billy Sharp has explained leaving Sheffield United this summer.

The 37 year-old striker has left the Blades after coming off contract at the end of June.

He said, "It's been strange knowing I wasn't going back for pre-season and it doesn't feel 100 per cent real until I sign with another club.

"I am ready to continue my career elsewhere.

"The manager wanted to give me another year. He was quite open about that.

"He wanted to keep all the players because I don't think he gets money to spend on players.

"For some reason it (the extension) didn't happen, and it has been disappointing. It hurts to know that I will not play for Sheffield United again."
