Sevilla pull out of race for Stoke target Konoplyanka

Sevilla are no longer in the running to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka.

Konoplyanka has sparked an almighty scrap for his signature among a host of European teams after declining to extend his contract at Dnipro and Sevilla were one of the many clubs interested in signing the soon-to-be free agent.

However, the Europa League winners have now pulled out of the race to sign the Ukraine international leaving Stoke City to go after his services.

Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo said: "The chances of us signing Konoplyanka had not decreased but we set deadlines and these have not been met. There has been no agreement.

"Today Seville have forgotten that option and we are working on other options that may be valid. We have reached an agreement to move on and look at other possibilities.

"Seville are big enough to mark time. We are working to finalise the squad as soon as possible but rushing does not make for good negotiators. Urgency causes you to take options without thinking or pay more money.

"We do not want to do anything we might regret. There are 11 days remaining before we start training. I ask for patience. I am calm."
