Sevilla keeper Palop apologises for Honda gaffe

Sevilla goalkeeper Andre Palop has apologised for his gaffe in defeat to Champions League opponents CSKA Moscow.

Palop made a mess of what should have been a straightforward save from Keisuke Honda's powerful free-kick.

"I feel obliged to apologise. When so many people were hopeful, I must ask forgiveness. Today was an important day and I have failed, so I will ask forgiveness a thousand times," said Palop.

"We try to give joy to the fans, it is our duty to do our best but now I am obliged to offer an apology."

Palop said that the shot from Honda was powerful and moved strangely but said that he had no excuse for not saving it.

"It was a powerful shot which caught me off-guard, it was a little strange but there are no excuses."
