Sevilla defender Carrico: Europa League is ‘our competition’

Daniel Carrico has labelled the Europa League as Sevilla's competition.

The Spanish club won their third straight Europa League final by beating Liverpool 3-1 in Basel on Wednesday night, prompting words of ownership from the Portuguese defender.

"It is difficult to say something about our team," Carrico told BT Sports.

"Right now it is difficult to say what I'm feeling. Three seasons in a row winning this competition.

"It is our competition!"

Unai Emery's Sevilla came from a goal down at half-time to sweep past Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool and Carrico was full of praise for everyone involved in the triumph.

"We had strength and power in an amazing second half," he added.

"What an amazing night for my teammates, the staff and the supporters.

"Liverpool played a really good first half but at half-time the manager tell us that we have to change the game and believe in ourselves.

"We did what he said. Maybe because we scored at the beginning of the second half, it helped us, that's normal.

"It was amazing in the second half, Liverpool didn't have any chances."

He concluded: "Next season we will be in the Champions League, another challenge for us.

"This season we were there but it will be a different competition.

"We will see what happens next season but now is time to celebrate and be proud of what we did."

Second-half goals from Kevin Gameiro and Coke (a brace) saw Sevilla come from behind to beat Liverpool who opened the scoring through Daniel Sturridge on 35 minutes at St Jakob-Park.
