Sevilla chief Monchi encouraged in bid for Barcelona veteran Rakitic

Sevilla chief Monchi is eager to bring Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic back to the club.

Sport says with 12 months remaining on his current deal, and Barça not willing to offer him an extension, this is the last chance to cash in on the experienced midfielder before he could leave for nothing.

Sevilla are thought to be frontrunners for Rakitic's signature after he previously turned down moves to PSG and Juventus because he didn't want to move his family. The only obstacle to a return to southern Spain was Barça's asking price - and the player's wages. Now it's felt like a compromise on both aspects could be made this summer.

Rakitic was always open to seeing out his deal with Barça but the influx of new arrivals mean he's unlikely to play at all next season. After six years of service at the Camp Nou, there's a desire on both sides to ensure they part ways on good terms.
