Sergio Ramos insists Real Madrid will recover from Barcelona thrashing

Real Madrid will recover from their Barcelona thrashing, insists defender Sergio Ramos.

Ramos feels there is a way back for the team in the Primera Division title race.

He claimed: "It was an important game and the team did not play well, but now more than ever we must take pride in the face that we are Real Madrid, who have suffered moments like this before and still continued onwards.

"We must keep working with great responsibility, and give our congratulations to Barcelona, who played a great game. Now is the time to be united, and we can still win titles."

Ramos also fielded questions on his red card for a late lunge that caught Lionel Messi from behind in the closing moments, stating that it was not his intention to injure the Argentine.

He added: "I feel bad, I was wrong to make the challenge, but it is clear that I would never go into a match with the intention of hurting someone else. I have never injured anyone. I am not proud of what I did and I apologised to my Spain team-mates, Xavi and [Carles] Puyol."
