Seongnam Ilhwa's Ognenovski cannot understand Australian national team snub

Seongnam Ilhwa central defender Sasa Ognenovski says he cannot understand why he has never been given a chance to show his wares to the Australian national team.

The 31-year old former Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United man has not once been called up by Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek and is not exactly sure why his opportunity has never come.

"I have never spoken to him (Verbeek) in my life," Ognenovski said. "I seriously have no idea why.

"You know a lot of other players have been given a chance to see if they were good enough. I haven't been and I don't know why."

Ognenovski admits he is frustrated by the fact he has never got the call because he believes his performances at club level have always been at a fairly good standard.

"It's been disappointing, obviously, because I've always stepped up to the bigger challenge in club football," Ognenovski added.

"I do honestly believe that if I was given that chance for the Socceroos I'd step up to that challenge as well.

"But I've never had the chance and I can't prove it to anyone."
