Seattle Sounders prepared to let Dempsey go out on winter loan

Seattle Sounders general manager Adrian Hanauer has revealed that Clint Dempsey could go out on loan this offseason.

The 30-year old, who joined the Sounders from Fulham in August, has a clause in his contract allowing him to head back to Europe for a loan over winter and Hanauer says that is likely to happen in a bid to maintain fitness and form in a World Cup year.

"Clint has something in his contract that allows him to go (on loan) once during his contract, which obviously was intended for this offseason prior to the World Cup," Hanauer told the Seattle Times.

"So his agent and he are kind of keeping me in the loop, and we're sort of working on that. I can't say for sure whether something will happen or not, but we won't be surprised if that happens."
