Seattle Sounders' Montero pays tribute to Hurtado

Seattle Sounders young gun Fredy Montero paid tribute to injured teammate Jhon Kennedy Hurtado by wearing his playing number at training on Wednesday.

Hurtado will miss the next few months at least after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and 22-year old Montero thought it would be nice to have him on the pitch, if not in body then at least in spirit.

"Jhon is my friend and it was salute to him to wear his number," Montero said through an interpreter. "With that, I wanted to tell him I am with him in the good things and the bad things as well."

Sounders Sigi Schmid added: "He and Jhon Kennedy are close. I know he kids him a lot, but he wanted to do that for Jhon.

"Jhon is a person the whole team likes. He's a very giving person and he's a person we care a lot about as a group. We certainly miss him and can't wait for him to come back.

"It was a little bit to pay him respect. I thought it was a great gesture from Fredy. Our team really cares about him and wish for him to get back as soon as possible."
