Season over? Atletico Madrid confirm serious injury for Diego Costa

Atletico Madrid may've lost Diego Costa for the remainder of the season.

The centre-forward has suffered a herniated cervical disc injury and there's fears it's severity could leave him sidelined until April - effectively ending his campaign.

In a statement this morning, Atletico announced: "Our forward underwent an X-ray to assess the cervical discomfort suffered in recent days. Costa suffers from a herniated cervical disk and in the next few days will be assessed by specialists in neurosurgery to establish the definitive treatment.

"The club's medical services have done radiological tests on Diego Costa to assess the cervical discomfort suffered in recent days. These tests have determined that the forward suffers a herniated cervical disk.

"During the next few days he will be evaluated by specialists in neurosurgery to establish the definitive treatment.

AS says even if he avoids surgery, Costa isn't expected to be available again until April.
