Scotland coach Clarke targets West Ham wing-back Fredericks

Steve Clarke has identified a connection between West Ham United star Ryan Fredericks and Scotland, and the new Scottish manager seems keen to entice the defender to switch international allegiance.

The London-born Hammers star has appeared for England at under-19 level but is yet to make a senior start, meaning that an international chance with Scotland could be an exciting proposition.

A source close to the player said: "Ryan is exploring the possibility of playing for Scotland.

"Playing international for Scotland, under Steve Clarke, is something that definitely appeals to him.

"Speaking to his family, he believes he is eligible, but it is through his granddad who he has never met. Ryan and his family are still doing some due diligence on that side.

"From there, they should then be able to find out whether Ryan will be eligible to play for Scotland."
