Manchester United legend Paul Scholes feels his old club can challenge for the title.

Scholes was speaking after United's victory over Newcastle United.

He said: "If United can get their away form right, I wouldn't be surprised if they did what Liverpool did last year.

"They can go on a big run, a great run, and put pressure on the top two [Chelsea and Manchester City].

"Once it gets to the Champions League they get free weeks and then we'll see what happens."

Captain Wayne Rooney scored twice in the win and refused to play down their title push.

He said: "There's a long way to go, we know that.

"We've chased down leads and lost leads before. Anything can happen, especially over the next week or two.

"If we can come out of these games with the right results, we'll be in a good position."
