Schmeichel: England can't take underdone Man City keeper Hart to World Cup

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel says England cannot risk an underdone Joe Hart at the World Cup.

Hart was again benched for Manchester City's thrashing of Arsenal yesterday.

"He [Joe Hart] can't go into the World Cup like this," Schmeichel told the Daily Mail, "If Joe Hart doesn't play for his club, there is no way that he can play at the World Cup. He can't play for England.

"The manager can't play a goalkeeper or any player that doesn't play. You have got to be sharp and at the very top of your game to play at a World Cup. You can't have players that are not playing.

"At the World Cup, you play against the best players in the world and history will tell you that the margin for mistakes between two teams are so small. It is individual things that separate two teams. As we know with England, so many times it ends up with the quarter-finals and penalty shootouts.

"If you are carrying players that are not sharp and just have a name, then I don't think you'll [England] get anywhere in the World Cup."
