Scans clear Wellington Phoenix's Ifill of any serious damage

Wellington Phoenix striker Paul Ifill was yesterday cleared of having any serious damage to his leg after positive scan results.

The English-born Barbadian international was injured when he got tangled up with Newcastle Jets defender Tarek Elrich when attempting to shoot on goal in his side's 4-0 win on Saturday and initial fears were that he had broken his leg.

But an MRI scan suggests he has only sustained a high ankle sprain and membrane damage and should only be out of action for around six weeks although Ifill was more hopeful.

"The specialist has said I'll be out for six weeks but obviously I'll be aiming to be back before that," Ifill said.

"It's probably better news than I was expecting, to be honest. Hopefully the boys can keep things going well in the meantime and I can come back and play a part during the remainder of the season."
