Sampdoria will make a decision today over the future of coach Mimmo di Carlo.
Di Carlo is facing the sack after losing at home to Serie A minnows Cesena.
"This is a bitter and devastating day," said director of sport Doriano Tosi. "Even with a pessimistic outlook, nobody expected a game like this.
"The team will go into a pre-match training camp from Tuesday, probably in Rome, ahead of the delicate encounter with Catania.
"As for the Coach, we are taking 24 hours to reflect. We must make the right decision to reach our objective of safety as soon as possible.
"We will evaluate the alternatives. Today we asked Di Carlo not to attend the post-match Press conference, as after such a heavy defeat and protests from supporters, I thought it was only right that I come here to represent the club."
