Sampdoria coach Ranieri wants more after victory over Crotone

Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri wants more from his players after their 3-1 defeat of Crotone.

Mikkel Damsgaard, Jakub Jankto and Fabio Quagliarella were on target for Samp.

Ranieri said afterwards, “We were winning 2-0, pressing well, and it's fine to go on the counter when you are at 0-0, but you must learn to control the game too. You have to know how to show patience, use the ball and control the tempo, not always frenetic," the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Arkadiusz Reca went on a slalom like the greatest skier, the defenders should use their posture to push him away from the box, not centrally.

“Other than that, I am happy with the performance, we did well against a Crotone side that is well-drilled and has some very dangerous players. However, we've got 14 points, 10 of them away from home. That's not enough."

On veteran Quagliarella, he added: “Fabio is a sublime player, nobody knows that more than me, but he is of a certain age and we want to put him in the condition to give his best. So we tire out the opposition, Fabio comes on and kills the game.

“I already told him before the season began that he couldn't play all 38 games for 90 minutes, and he accepted. This week there were three games in a row, so we had to stretch it out a bit."
