Salernitana president Iervolino concedes 'dream' Cavani a long shot signing

Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino concedes a move for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is a long shot.

Iervolino has admitted he'd like to sign the former Napoli star, who is off contract at United this month.

He said, “Perhaps, it will remain just a dream, but surely he is a great player. We'll begin our transfer activity next week. We'll discuss it with the director and his staff, trying to find the right profiles and invest in them. We are optimists. Hopefully, we can make a good job."

Former Serie A goalkeeper Morgan de Sanctis has been named new sporting director at Salernitana.

Iervolino added: “He has great passion and he loves our project. We want a young and quality team.

“We know that a tough season is waiting for us. We have faith and there is enthusiasm."
