Sagnol admits mixed emotions over Lyon bid for Crystal Palace defender Sakho

World Cup winner Willy Sagnol has mixed emotions over Lyon's move for Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho.

New OL sports director Bruno Cheyrou is targeting Sakho for the summer market.

Considering the move, Sagnol told RMC: "When an English club lets a player who is just 30 years old go, that is not a good sign. The English championship demands a lot physically, athletically, and wears you out. Sakho will bring a lot of character to this team. We know that for three or four years, it has been a recurring evil in this (OL) team. However, he can only bring it if he plays. If he is regularly injured...

"To be honest, it's been too long since I've seen Crystal Palace and Mamadou Sakho play. I think that if he had been in good shape at Palace, we would have seen him again in the French team. We haven't seen him again. It is not very positive. After that, it can be, for him, the possibility of finishing a good career, doing beautiful things if the injuries leave him alone.

"It is strange to see a Parisian go to Lyon. Mamad, he's not just a PSG trained player. He was a captain, he was born in the area ... But why not? It is a big transfer that will be expensive, in terms of wages and money. For French clubs, it is necessary to reduce the risks of being wrong. Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of risks (for Sakho at OL)."
