Sadio Mane hits fastest Premier League hat-trick as Southampton thrash Villa

Southampton attacker Sadio Mane broke a Premier League record for the fastest hat-trick today against Aston Villa.

Saints ranout 6-1 winners after an amazing opening 45 minutes left the score at 5-1.

Mane completed his hat-trick in two minutes and 56 seconds as the Saints made a sensational start against Tim Sherwood's side at St Mary's Stadium.

The Senegal international's quickfire three-goal haul bettered the league's previous best of four minutes and 33 seconds set by Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler against Arsenal in 1994.

Shane Long then scored twice to extend Southampton's lead to 5-0 before Christian Benteke headed home shortly before half-time to give the shell-shocked Villa fans at least some consolation.

Mane's first two had a touch of good fortune, putting away a ricochet off Villa keeper Shay Given, before latching on to a loose Ron Vlaar back-pass for his second.

But the Senegalese, a summer signing from Salzburg, finished well from the edge of the area for his third, to pour misery on Tim Sherwood's side.

Graziano Pelle rounded out the scoring for Saints in the second-half, firing home on 81 minutes.

Mane played a one-two before whipping the ball into the box for Pelle to volley home with a first-time finish.
