Sacked QPR boss Hughes didn't see it coming

Sacked QPR boss Mark Hughes didn't see the axe coming yesterday.

No sooner had he arrived at the training ground, he was met by chief executive Phil Beard and shareholder Kamarudin Meranun to be told his contract was being terminated, says The Sun.

Incredibly, Rangers announced the sacking on Twitter before releasing an official club statement.

The tweet read: "QPR has today terminated the contract of manager Mark Hughes with immediate effect. Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki will take charge of the R's trip to Manchester United."

It had been a long week for Hughes but he was confident he had received assurances that he would at least be given the game at Old Trafford to try and turn it around.
