Donadoni's two years in charge came to an end this week following a meeting with the Italian Football Federation.
The former Livorno boss believes that all that separated him from still being in a job is one missed penalty in the shootout defeat to Spain.
"I am sorry that a penalty kick has led to this situation," he explained.
"In these two years I believe that Italy has done something positive, and the last match can not delete this.
"I never felt alone and I would do everything all over again. I am satisfied with what the players have done, they gave their maximum, and it was a wonderful experience."
