Livorno were officially relegated yesterday, despite thumping Catania 3-1.

Livorno coach Gennaro Ruotolo started the campaign and was then brought back after Serse Cosmi's dismissal.

"It was a good performance," said Ruotolo. "We gave it our best, but unfortunately it was too late and life goes on.

"I am proud of the way the lads fought today, as they wanted to win and do well. We will continue with that spirit to the end of the season."

He added: "What decided our relegation? It's too late to discuss this now. These are the facts and we'd best leave the rest alone."
