Rummenigge: Sane must do better; he doesn't have the Bayern gene - yet

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is demanding more from Leroy Sane.

The Germany international is in his first season since arriving from Manchester City, but has struggled in Hansi Flick's system.

After victory over Bayer Leverkusen, Rummenigge stated: “God gave him incredible talents. I only think one thing: He hasn't internalised this FC Bayern gene yet. Unlike Thomas Müller, who was my hero yesterday. He marched up and down, by talent, but not as protected as Leroy. He has to work on that. That is his job.

“We did everything we could to ensure that he came to FC Bayern. We encourage every player, but we also challenge. He has to internalise that and the team supports him.

“He has to take the next step, Leroy has to adapt his character to FC Bayern. This character is: You forgive everything, but you have to give the impression that you are throwing everything into the balance in order to leave the field as a winner. He will have to learn that."
