Rubin Kazan are making a play for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba.

The Evening Chronicle says reports from Russia today indicated that Ba's £7million release clause had been activated by the Russian Premier League side.

But its understood that there has been "no contact" between the Magpies and the Russian outfit.

The player still has six days left in which the clause can be triggered.
