Uwe Rosler was thrilled with his Wigan Athletic side despite them being knocked out of the Europa League.
The Latics were controversially beaten 2-1 by NK Maribor in Slovenia in their final Group D outing which cost them a place in the Round of 32.
Jordi Gomez's 41st minute penalty put the visitors ahead before referee Szymon Marciniak made a blunder by awarding Maribor a penalty and sending off Chris McCann for a dubious handball late in the first half.
Maribor scored from the ensuing spot kick and went onto take advantage of having one extra man - until Ales Mertelj received his marching orders in the 74th minute - with Zeljko Filipovic netting the eventual winner on the hour-mark.
Nonetheless, Rosler was happy with his side who responded well to him being in charge for the first time since Owen Coyle was replaced on the weekend.
"(The sending-off) wasn't a turning point in terms of performance because we controlled the game after that as well," he said.
"I'm very happy with the way we performed. I think my team did exactly what we wanted them to do and totally dominated the game. I couldn't see them scoring goals.
"We didn't pass the ball in our own half most of the time, we passed the ball in the opposition half. We made them run, they got tired.
"In the second half, 11 against 11, we would have created more and more chances."
Wigan finished bottom of Group D on five points, two behind second-placed Maribor, meaning a win tonight would have seen them through to the Round of 32.
