Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that Wayne Rooney took the onus on himself to rally the squad.
The Red Devils captain got the playing group together prior to Sunday's Premier League clash with Tottenham and it worked wonders as they bounced back from the FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Arsenal to secure a 3-0 victory.
"I was aware but I was not involved. It was the captain who was involved," said van Gaal.
"The players knew that this game was massively important and so I think the captain has to do something to help the players or the manager or the club.
"I was very pleased."
