Wayne Rooney insists Angel Di Maria will become a top-quality Manchester United player. The Argentine winger's form has fallen away dramatically after a promising start to his Old Trafford career which begun when joining from Real Madrid for £59.7million in the summer.
Di Maria was subbed off at half-time of United's 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday but that does not suggest to Rooney that his teammate will be a failure in England, indicating that the 27-year old has what it takes.
"Of course he has. Today was one of those days that every footballer has," said Rooney after netting a double in the win.
"He is a great player, he has shown that and you don't lose your talent overnight. Hopefully he will get back to his best and start giving some great performances for us.
"He has got a lot of experience and I think he will figure it out. We all have to do that sometimes.
"There is nothing worse than when everyone keeps going on at you. You have to come to it in your own way and I'm sure he will be a big player for us between now and the end of the season."
