Ronaldinho and Ronaldo inspired me, Sagnol helped a lot - Man Utd youngster Martial

Manchester United youngster Anthony Martial has revealed that Brazilian superstars Ronaldinho and Ronaldo were big inspirations for him during his early days in football

The 20-year-old French forward also reveals that it was his brother Johan - a defender with French club Troyes - who inspired to take football as a profession while Bayern Munich great Willy Sagnol was also a massive help earlier in his career.

"My brother was the one who really gave me the desire to follow in his footsteps," he told Inside United.

"Also, it was really Ronaldinho and Ronaldo, the two Brazilian players, who also inspired me to a future in football.

Former Monaco starlet Martial also gave credit to former France international Sagnol who picked him for the France U21 squad.

He added: "There was a particularly important coach for me.

"Willy Sagnol, the current Bordeaux manager, who was running the French Under-21 team at the time. I was at Monaco and wasn't playing in the first team then but turning out for the reserves - and he picked me for the French national team U21s.

"It was that which allowed me to keep playing at a decent level of form and to tell myself that I could still make it as a player in the professional game."
