Roma coach Fonseca hails his players after thumping Benevento

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca was delighted with their 5-2 thumping of Benevento.

Fonseca was always in favour of more attacking football and there were 41 goals in nine games this weekend.

He said, “There weren't many dangerous situations in front of our goal and we generally felt in control. We conceded in a situation where we weren't balanced, but I said last year that Serie A is a very attacking league and it's absolutely not true that it's defensive.

“I like my team to be positive, to create lots of scoring opportunities and be proactive. A lot of coaches feel that way now and it's good for football.

“I want to always be realistic and we all know that there are two clubs that invested far more than the rest, which puts them out in front as the Scudetto favourites. After that, there's a group that want to get into the Champions League and Roma are in that group.

“What we want is to do better than last season."
