Roma chief Baldini move for Tottenham defender Vertonghen

AS Roma are moving for Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.

Off contract next month, Vertonghen is expected to eventually leave Spurs once the Premier League season concludes.

Corriere dello Sport says Roma chief Franco Baldini, who previously worked as a football adviser at Spurs, is moving to bring Vertonghen to Italy.

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is also being considered as Roma seek alternatives for Chris Smalling.

The on-loan Manchester United defender has been a success this season, though his parent club's valuation is proving too steep for Roma.

United want €25m to sell Smalling this summer.
