Roma captain Francesco Totti has blasted AC Milan fans over their treatment of Paolo Maldini.
"Things in calcio need to change," Roma talisman Totti wrote in the Corriere dello Sport.
"There is a lack of values and respect in the game. What happened to Maldini on Sunday is a sign of the negative phase the sport is going through.
"Paolo has always been a role model for us players. Nothing can justify what happened to a player who has worn the same shirt for 900 games.
"I completely understand his disappointment. Maldini deserves plaudits from everyone from the supporters to the directors and Coaches. It will be difficult for anyone to match his achievements."
