Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants Steven Gerrard to stick around and lead his new generation.
Liverpool are regarded now as champions-elect.
Rodgers said: "Yeah, that was the idea. It's why we bought so many young players. Joe Allen's 24, Jordan Henderson 23, Raheem Sterling 19, Jon Flanagan 21.
"Mamadou Sakho's only 23. Simon Mignolet 25, Daniel Sturridge 24 and Luis Suarez is still only 27. Lucas is 27 and Philippe Coutinho 21. And obviously there are others to come through.
"Steven Gerrard at sweeper when he's 40? Sweeper? Keeper? We'll just keep moving him back!
"So that's the idea here. We keep trying to move on and build something."
